What Rahu in Taurus means

Rahu at its strongest: the appetite for more

Rahu
Craving, novelty, the foreign and the drive for more.
Taurus
A fixed earth sign, ruled by Venus. Earth signs build and keep. A fixed sign holds and deepens.
Comfort
ExaltedRahu is exalted here: this is its strongest sign.
Rhythm
Stays about 1½ years at a time. Returns about every 18½ years. Ketu sits opposite, in Scorpio.

Rahu is the Moon's north node, a shadow planet that stands for craving, novelty and the drive to have more. It moves backward through the zodiac with Ketu opposite. In Taurus, a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus, the tradition calls Rahu exalted: appetite in the sign of wealth, land, food and pleasure, where wanting more is the nature of the sign.

With Ketu in Scorpio, secrets, debts and shared power are what the world is releasing. The theme is material hunger that gets what it wants. Markets and tastes swing wide. The lesson is that plenty can be a kind of fever, and that value is what remains when the fever breaks.

What the tradition expects

  • Material booms, speculation and shifts in what things are worth
  • Appetite for luxury, food, land and the new
  • Hidden power and old debts loosening, with Ketu in Scorpio

How to read any transit

Three questions, in this order. They work for every planet and every sign.

  1. How comfortable is the planet here?Exalted, at home, in a friend's sign, or debilitated. Comfort sets whether the planet's themes come easily or have to be worked for.
  2. Which house is it in, for you?The same sign is a different house for every rising sign. The house says which part of life the transit touches: money, home, work, partners.
  3. What else was in the sky?A slow transit sets the backdrop. The other slow planets, and the eclipses, say what played out in front of it. No single transit explains a year.
