Rahu in Pisces

The craving to escape and to dissolve

Returns about every 18½ years. What the transit means, then what was in the news and who was born each time it passed through Pisces since 1900, so you can test the teaching against the record, and against your own life.

What Rahu in Pisces means

The craving to escape and to dissolve

Rahu
Craving, novelty, the foreign and the drive for more.
Pisces
A dual water sign, ruled by Jupiter. Water signs feel and protect. A dual sign adapts and carries one phase into the next.
Comfort
In a neutral signPisces is ruled by Jupiter, which is neutral to Rahu.
Rhythm
Stays about 1½ years at a time. Returns about every 18½ years. Ketu sits opposite, in Virgo.

Rahu is the Moon's north node, a shadow planet that stands for craving, novelty and the drive to have more. It moves backward through the zodiac with Ketu opposite. In Pisces, a mutable water sign ruled by Jupiter, which is neutral to Rahu, the craving is for transcendence: faith, fantasy, the sea, substances and anything that promises a way out.

With Ketu in Virgo, method, routine and the discipline of detail are what the world is releasing. The theme is illusion and idealism. Spiritual fads rise. So does deception. The lesson is that the longing for something larger is real, and that it is best met with open eyes.

What the tradition expects

  • Spiritual movements, fads and the market for transcendence
  • Illusion, deception and the trade in escapes
  • Method and routine loosening, with Ketu in Virgo

Carry this into the record

What did people in these years reach for beyond the ordinary, and what did they find?

How to read any transit

Three questions, in this order. They work for every planet and every sign.

  1. How comfortable is the planet here?Exalted, at home, in a friend's sign, or debilitated. Comfort sets whether the planet's themes come easily or have to be worked for.
  2. Which house is it in, for you?The same sign is a different house for every rising sign. The house says which part of life the transit touches: money, home, work, partners.
  3. What else was in the sky?A slow transit sets the backdrop. The other slow planets, and the eclipses, say what played out in front of it. No single transit explains a year.
