Jupiter in Virgo

Growth made to show its work

Returns about every 12 years. What the transit means, then what was in the news and who was born each time it passed through Virgo since 1900, so you can test the teaching against the record, and against your own life.

What Jupiter in Virgo means

Growth made to show its work

Jupiter
Growth, faith, teachers and good fortune.
Virgo
A dual earth sign, ruled by Mercury. Earth signs build and keep. A dual sign adapts and carries one phase into the next.
Comfort
In an enemy's signVirgo is ruled by Mercury, an enemy to Jupiter in the tradition, so Jupiter is uneasy here.
Rhythm
Stays 13 months at a time. Returns about every 12 years.

Jupiter is the planet of growth, faith, teachers and good fortune. Virgo is a mutable earth sign ruled by Mercury: service, health, analysis and detail. Mercury and Jupiter are not friends in the tradition, and Jupiter's broad strokes sit awkwardly in a sign that checks every line.

The theme is vision versus detail. Health systems and work are reformed, but every plan is audited. Faith has to be practical. The lesson is that growth is real only when it reaches the ordinary day, and that good intentions need good craft.

What the tradition expects

  • Reforms in health, work and public service, argued line by line
  • Teachers and experts asked for evidence, not inspiration
  • Growth that is modest, exact and in service of others

Carry this into the record

Where in this year did a big idea succeed or fail on its details?

How to read any transit

Three questions, in this order. They work for every planet and every sign.

  1. How comfortable is the planet here?Exalted, at home, in a friend's sign, or debilitated. Comfort sets whether the planet's themes come easily or have to be worked for.
  2. Which house is it in, for you?The same sign is a different house for every rising sign. The house says which part of life the transit touches: money, home, work, partners.
  3. What else was in the sky?A slow transit sets the backdrop. The other slow planets, and the eclipses, say what played out in front of it. No single transit explains a year.

Born during this visit

Anyone born under a transit carries it in their birth chart. Those with a chart in our library open straight into it.

Too soon to tell. People born during this visit will appear here once they are grown and well known.

Compare two visits

The same transit, a generation apart. Pick any two of Jupiter's visits to Virgo and read them against each other.

2004–05 leaned to culture and sport, 2016–17 to politics and society. The same transit set the backdrop both times; what played out in front of it differed.

The pattern across 10 visits

What made the news. Every story in the record for Jupiter's visits to Virgo, 381 in all, by kind, next to the usual mix across every transit since 1900.
